The field of mathematical origami is a branch of applied math that studies the math behind paper folding through many forms of analysis. Because the folding of material is a very intuitive tool for dynamic construction, advancement in understanding the restrictions paper has when folding have had infamous applications in numerous areas, like nano-robotics, space technology, DNA assembly, and many more.. . . . In this talk, we will have an introduction to the field and its many forms of study; delving into topics in algebra, combinatorics and analysis, and we will explore some of its peculiarities, like the origami numbers. We will explore the various forms of defining the restrictions for our mathematical construction in terms of the real world problems that they aim to solve, and we will ask many questions: How do we know when something can be folded flat? What kinds of constructions can be made with paper? What do the so called “origami numbers” have to do with the constructible numbers?
