Eyewitness Account: Medical Aid in Gaza

Friday, February 21, 2025 6:00–8:00 PM
  • Location
    Online Event
  • Description
Hear Nurse Rahman's personal journey and his reflections in providing medical aid in his mission trip to Gaza, to learn in-depth about the severe healthcare crisis caused by the destruction of medical facilities, the shortage of medical resources due to blockades and attacks on aid deliveries, and the additional challenges healthcare workers face in conflict zones. His firsthand account will illustrate how the destruction of hospitals, limited access to medical aid, and the lack of clean water and sanitation impact public health (SDG 3). Additionally, this discussion will highlight how war and systemic barriers contribute to poverty (SDG 1) and food insecurity (SDG 2), which exacerbate the humanitarian crisis.. . . . Furthermore, Nurse Rahman will provide an educational perspective on global inequalities in healthcare access (SDG 10) and the need for stronger international institutions to protect human rights and uphold justice (SDG 16). By engaging with a medical professional who has witnessed these issues firsthand, USF students will gain a deeper understanding of the necessity for global partnerships in addressing humanitarian crises (SDG 17) and this will encourage critical discussions on the intersection of healthcare, conflict, and international aid, which will hopefully foster awareness and advocacy in USF students.
